FAQs About Labour Hire Services

Whether it’s your first time working with a labour hire agency or you have some questions about our staffing solutions – these FAQs should help clear things up.

Have another query? You’re welcome to contact our team to discuss.

In simple terms, a labour hire agency is a third-party that connects your business with skilled workers. This means each staff member you engage will be an employee of the agency. You can hire skilled staff on a short- or long-term basis with fees paid directly to the agency.

A few key benefits to using a labour hire agency include:

  • Convenience: recruitment, candidate screening and admin are all handled by the agency
  • Skills on-demand: you have access to a wide range of skills when you need them
  • Scalability: you can increase your workforce when needed, without a time-consuming and costly permanent hiring process
  • Efficiency: You can focus on your business whilst we take care of the administration, such as payroll, HR and Workcover.

We share more insights and advice about labour hire on our blog. You can also contact our team at any time to discuss staffing solutions.

While we can’t speak for every labour hire agency, we can tell you that a partnership with IWF is highly valuable. With 25+ years’ experience providing labour hire services, we have developed a seamless process that brings you highly-skilled workers on a quick turnaround.

Our goal is ensuring every worker we recommend is a good fit for your culture. This helps improve productivity and staff morale, while reducing overtime and errors.

We also offer transparent pricing structures; so if cost is a key concern – reach out to our team to discuss staffing solutions in your budget.

A common example of labour hire is warehouses that receive containers throughout the week. Rather than pulling permanent staff away from their usual roles, businesses often bring in casual workers to help unload containers and manage busy periods.

If one container arrives on Tuesday, a small team can be sent in. If several arrive later in the week, the workforce can quickly scale up. Labour hire allows businesses to respond to demand without the cost and administration of hiring permanent staff.

The workers are employees of the labour hire agency and are temporarily assigned to the business. The agency manages payroll, HR and workplace administration, while the business simply pays the agency for the workers provided.

Warehouses can also use labour hire for:

  • Licensed forklift operators
  • Busy periods or seasonal demand
  • Temporary staff gaps, such as sick leave
  • Short-term or project-based work

Another benefit is the opportunity to trial workers before offering permanent roles, giving businesses confidence in who they bring onto their team. It also removes the headache and time involved in managing staff recruitment themselves.

The terms labour hire and on-hire are interchangeable. They both refer to temporary hiring arrangements where a labour hire agency (us) provides reliable staff to a business (you).

While many labour hire services are focused on temporary staffing arrangements, there are also options for long-term hires and pathways to permanent employment.

It’s disappointing to know that our industry has been targeted by scammers and illegal activities. We’re not experts in scam prevention, so we can’t tell you exactly how to avoid bad actors.

One thing we can tell you is that quality agencies are transparent and offer honest communication. For us, this means an upfront discussion on costs, clear timelines for recruitment and practical advice on the hiring needs of your business.

We are always happy to answer questions about our hiring process and to provide relevant licenses, certificates or insurance on request.

In many states, labour hire companies must also hold a labour hire licence through the relevant Labour Hire Authority. Many businesses also require agencies to complete modern slavery and compliance declarations as part of their supplier onboarding. We’re always happy to help our clients who require this.

As a trustworthy agency, we’re comfortable sharing this information and answering any questions our clients might have about how we recruit, employ and support our workers.
